Adobe Unveils Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements 2027 With New AI-Powered Capabilities

Adobe has released its 2027 versions of Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, continuing the company's push to bring generative AI capabilities to its more consumer-oriented editing software. Both apps sit alongside - but distinct from - Adobe's professional Creative Cloud suite, targeting users who want capable editing tools without the complexity of Photoshop or Premiere Pro. This update leans heavily on AI-assisted workflows, with most new features designed to reduce friction for users who may not have deep editing experience.

On the Photoshop Elements side, the headline additions are Generative Expand and Generative Upscale. Generative Expand fills in the space around a photo's original borders with contextually matched content, letting users reframe or resize an image without cropping. Generative Upscale attempts to recover detail and clarity in lower-resolution images. A beta AI Assistant lets users describe what they want to accomplish in plain language and receive step-by-step guidance, which lowers the barrier for users unfamiliar with traditional editing menus. New Creative Filters - including Embroidery, Oil Painting, and Duotone - add stylistic options with adjustable sliders, and a dedicated AI Tools Hub consolidates the app's AI features in a single location.

Premiere Elements 2027 receives a Generate Image feature that lets users create a still image from a text prompt and insert it directly into a video timeline - useful for filling gaps in footage or adding custom overlays without sourcing external assets. Generative Title Art applies the same text-prompt approach to creating stylized title graphics. Contextual Toolbars let users describe a task in natural language to surface the relevant tools, and Editing Indicators flag issues with effects, transitions, and text formatting to help users catch problems before export. Adobe has also added sample media so new users can practice techniques without needing their own footage on hand.

Shared between both apps is an updated Elements Organizer, which gains Semantic Search - currently in English-only beta - allowing users to locate photos and videos using natural language descriptions even when those descriptions don't match existing file tags. Enhanced duplicate detection aims to make library cleanup more accurate, and a new Share to Phone option lets users transfer finished images from desktop to mobile via QR code. Both Photoshop Elements 2027 and Premiere Elements 2027 are available now, with pricing and plan details on Adobe's website.
