ARRI and HONOR Officially Unveil Their New Co-Branded Magic9 Pro Max Phone

ARRI and HONOR have officially announced the Magic9 Pro Max, the latest addition to their ongoing co-branded collaboration and the intended flagship of HONOR's Magic Series. The device brings a notable set of imaging credentials to the smartphone space, incorporating ARRI Image Science in the form of LogC3, ARRI Wide Gamut 3, and ARRI Looks - tools that professionals typically associate with high-end cinema cameras. It also supports a cinematic imaging mobile workflow designed to carry projects from capture through post-production.
On the hardware side, the Magic9 Pro Max features dual 200MP cameras driven by HONOR's in-house Imaging Chip H1, along with APV 10-bit 4:2:2 video recording and a built-in cinematic directional microphone. HONOR is also offering optional accessories to extend its production utility, including the HONOR Teleconverter G200, the HONOR Teleconverter G500, and a HONOR SmallRig Mobile Video Kit - a partnership with the well-known camera accessory brand that signals a clear push toward serious video use cases.
ARRI's Chief Product Officer, David Bermbach, framed the collaboration as an effort to introduce emerging cinematographers to ARRI's image pipeline at an early stage in their careers. That positioning is worth noting - this device appears aimed less at replacing professional cinema cameras and more at giving aspiring filmmakers a taste of ARRI's color and workflow philosophy in a more accessible form factor. Whether working professionals find a practical role for it in their productions remains an open question.
The partnership itself has been an unusual one to follow - ARRI, long associated with high-end film and broadcast equipment, entering the consumer smartphone market is not a pairing that comes with an obvious roadmap. Still, the combination of genuinely capable specs and trusted image science makes the Magic9 Pro Max worth watching. No pricing has been confirmed yet, and the phone is set to launch first in China, with broader availability details still to come.
