Evoto Adds Portrait Retouching to Video, Intelligent Culling, Mobile Tethering, and More
Evoto version 8.0 is a wide-ranging update that touches nearly every part of the company's product lineup - the desktop application, the mobile companion app, and Evoto Video. Rather than focusing on a single feature, the release appears aimed at expanding Evoto's footprint across different stages of a photographer's and videographer's workflow.
The headline addition for video users is portrait retouching built directly into DaVinci Resolve. Until now, AI-assisted skin retouching of the kind Evoto is known for in photography has largely stayed within dedicated photo editing environments. Bringing that capability inside a professional video editing timeline lowers the barrier for photographers who shoot video alongside stills and want consistent retouching results across both formats without exporting to a separate tool.
On the photography side, the update introduces story-based intelligent culling - a feature that goes beyond simple duplicate or blur detection and instead attempts to group and evaluate images according to the narrative or sequence they belong to. This approach can be useful for event and portrait photographers who shoot in bursts across multiple scenes or setups and need a faster way to identify the strongest selects from each. Mobile tethering support is also new, allowing photographers to connect a camera to the Evoto mobile app and review shots in the field, which is a practical addition for location shooters who prefer working without a laptop.
Rounding out the release is a preset and asset marketplace, giving users a centralized place to find and share editing styles and resources within the Evoto ecosystem. Version 8.0 positions Evoto as a more complete platform across photo and video, desktop and mobile, rather than a single-purpose retouching tool.
