Insta360 has officially introduced the X6, a 360-degree action camera that pushes the resolution and frame rate ceiling for the consumer and prosumer segments of the market. The headline specification is 8K50p 360-degree video, alongside a 6K60p option and an 8K30 PureVideo mode designed specifically for low-light situations. Those numbers represent a meaningful step up from what the previous X4 offered, and they come courtesy of a larger 1/1.1" sensor paired with a triple AI chip system that handles noise reduction and dynamic range processing in real time.

Beyond the top-line recording specs, the X6 carries a Bullet Time mode capable of 8K100p - the slow-motion effect the X series has long been associated with - and supports 16K time-lapse capture. The camera also shoots 120-megapixel 360-degree still images. On the audio side, Insta360 has included an intelligent audio mode and voice enhancement processing, which addresses one of the more persistent weak points in action camera audio. AI gesture controls round out the feature set for situations where reaching for the camera is not practical.

The hardware design follows the rugged, action-oriented template of its predecessors. The X6 is rated waterproof to 66 feet without a housing, and it ships with replaceable lenses - a feature that reduces long-term ownership costs since lens scratches are a common issue with 360-degree cameras. FlowState stabilization and Horizon Lock are both included, as is 64GB of internal storage alongside a microSD slot. Battery life is rated at approximately 140 minutes.

For filmmakers and content creators already working in the 360-degree space, the X6 appears to be a capable all-in-one option that reduces the need for additional rigs or post-processing workarounds. The combination of a larger sensor, higher frame rates, and on-device AI processing suggests the camera is targeting not just social media use cases but also more demanding production workflows where 360-degree footage is repurposed for flat reframes or immersive viewing.
